Decorated Christmas tree is a real challenge for our curious little ones, so we should follow a few rules to avoid any problems before and during the holidays. It's not as alarming as having a cat in the house, but we should be cautious.
Dogs are curious, and the shine and color of holiday decorations simply challenges them, promising them incredible fun with countless balls, tinsel, and lights ... However, all of this can be very dangerous for the dog, so we will be wise and protect both our pet and the space we live in.
Dog owners should opt for decorating a fake tree as needles fall off much more from natural trees and can be dangerous for the dog.
We should place the tree near a wall, stairs, or larger piece of furniture (wardrobe, cabinet ...) and secure its top with a strong rope or tape so the dog can't knock it over if it pulls on some decorations.
Lights can be dangerous as the wires connecting them are thin and the dog can easily chew through them, so we should take care when placing them on the tree, keeping them out of the dog's reach. If we have to lower them, we should coat them with bitter sauce or pet deterrent spray and stick them to the floor or wall.
We should avoid fragile decorations, and instead choose ones that the dog won't hurt itself if it grabs them.
We will place decorations with bells on the lower part of the tree which will serve as an alarm if the little one gets too close to it.
Sweets can also be a problem if the dog eats them, so it's recommended that we don't put them on the tree or in places where the dog can reach them.
We can place a protective fence or larger decorative boxes around the decorated tree to prevent access to our pet.
Over time, dogs will get used to holiday decorations and will realize that decorations are not toys to play with, so we will celebrate the holidays in peace and love in an idyllic atmosphere. Hope these tips helped.
