Nikolina and her brother Nikola had a dog they named Čupko. Nikolina loved little Čupko from the first day and enjoyed every moment she spent with him. He was her best friend.
However, Nikola could not accept that the dog was part of their family. He felt that everyone in the house, especially his sister, loved the dog more than him. Nikola never said a nice word to Čupko nor wanted to play with him. When the dog approached him, he would just shoo him away, and when Čupko did something wrong, Nikola would happily run to their parents to complain.
Nikolina felt sorry for the dog, so she tried to comfort him every time her brother scared him. She often begged Nikola not to make ugly faces when he saw Čupko, but it was in vain.
The day before the school trip, Nikola had an accident and hurt his leg, so he had to stay home. Nikolina was very worried about that. She went on the trip but kept thinking about how Čupko would cope while she was away.
The boy was sad because he could not go on the trip he wanted so much, and he was bored because all his friends had gone, and he had to stay alone at home.
Only Čupko was there for him. Calmly, he sat next to the boy and watched him with much understanding. It was as if he felt all his pain and sadness. He tried to stay close to the boy's injured leg and show him how much he loved him, regardless of his previous behavior.
Nikola was confused at first. He didn't understand why the dog he didn't treat well still loved him and tried to make everything easier for him. Spontaneously, he began to pet the dog and thank him for being there for him when he needed it. He was so touched that he even apologized to Čupko for all the unpleasant moments.
That day, the boy began to love and appreciate Čupko because he realized that he was a loyal and faithful friend who loved him even though he didn't deserve it.
When Nikolina returned from the trip, she found a scene she couldn't even imagine in her dreams. She was overjoyed because her brother and Čupko became friends. Her wish had finally come true.
From that day on, the brother and sister enjoyed each other's company and the love of their faithful friend. Čupko is another proof that we receive unconditional love from dogs that can soften even the hardest hearts and solve all problems.
